Bronx Driver Turns Himself in After Causing Fatal Crash

AutoAccident

Many families struggle to locate the drivers who have caused the deaths of their loved ones. One can only hope that these guilty drivers will do the right thing and turn themselves in. The sad truth is that a considerable percentage of hit-and-run drivers never face consequences for the pain that they have caused. A recent development in a fatal crash in the Bronx provides some optimism.

Unlicensed Driver to Blame for Tragic Bronx Car Accident

In May of 2025, News 12 the Bronx reported that an unlicensed driver had turned himself in to the police. The man had admitted to causing the death of a “beloved football coach” in the Bronx five months earlier. Described as a mentor and youth leader, this victim was respected in his local community.

The fact that the suspect has turned himself in undoubtedly provides some closure to the family of the victim and the larger community. However, the victim’s daughter notes that “it doesn’t bring [her] father back.”

The accident occurred in November of 2024 at the intersection of Eastchester Road and Givan Avenue. Police say that the suspect ran a red light before crashing his BMW into a commercial truck. The BMW then collided with the suspect, who was in the process of parking his vehicle outside his home. Although first responders rushed him to the nearest hospital, he did not survive his critical injuries.

The suspect stayed at the scene of the crash, but police did not charge him. It took investigators several months before they determined that he had run a red light before the collision. Police also determined that the man had been speeding prior to the crash.

The truck driver fled the scene of the crash and was subsequently arrested in March – about four months after the collision. He then pleaded not guilty to various charges in connection with the incident.

The BMW driver allegedly committed many additional red-light violations after the crash. He now faces charges of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and driving without a license.

In another effort to pursue closure and a sense of justice, the victim’s family has asked the local government to make safety improvements to the intersection. Statistics show that 11 people have been injured at the intersection within the past five years.
