Six Injured After Yet Another Driver Crashes into a Long Island Building

PIClaims12

Drivers are crashing into Long Island buildings at an almost ridiculous rate. The latest incident has caused six injuries, and it involved a driver crashing into a Jiffy Lube location. Authorities in Long Island have to get a handle on this issue, as drivers seem to be crashing into buildings every day. What can you do if you were injured in a Manhasset storefront crash? Could a New York personal injury lawyer help you get compensation for your injuries?

Driver Slams Into Jiffy Lube, Injuring Six People

“I saw somebody lost control and fly into the bay, it’s unbelievable.” Those were the words of a nearby automotive shop who witnessed an SUV smash into a Jiffy Lube in Long Island. Authorities say that the incident occurred after a driver tried to pass another vehicle – causing a collision that sent one of the cars flying into the business.

Numerous people were waiting inside the bay, and several vehicles were parked inside. One woman was clipped by the SUV as it slammed into the business, and the impact threw her into an oil change pit. Witnesses say that if it wasn’t for a safety net installed by the Jiffy Lube employees, the woman would have been “severely hurt.”

Five others suffered unspecified injuries, including a passenger inside the out-of-control SUV and three Jiffy Lube employees. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured – although all six of the victims were hospitalized as a result of the crash. In addition, several vehicles inside the Jiffy Lube location were damaged by the collision.

Fresh Concerns About Storefront Crashes Throughout Long Island

This represents yet another storefront crash in Long Island – a growing trend that is causing concern among local residents. Each week, it seems like something like this occurs – endangering not only motorists but also customers inside buildings.

Authorities recognize this problem, but it’s not clear what steps they were willing to take to improve safety. The obvious option is the installation of barriers or “bollards” outside buildings at risk for vehicle collisions. Some businesses seem particularly likely to suffer these kinds of impacts – including a Long Island Chinese restaurant that has been struck by two vehicles within the space of a single year. However, these barriers are not currently mandated by any state law.

Key Takeaways
