Multiple Pedestrians in Queens Struck by Reckless Drivers

PedestrianCross

Within the space of a single day, two separate incidents injured several pedestrians in Queens. One occurred outside of an elementary school, while the other occurred at a bus shelter. Both of these locations have heavy foot traffic, making them one of the worst spots imaginable for a pedestrian crash. What can you do after a pedestrian accident in Forest Hills? Could a personal injury lawyer help you hold reckless drivers accountable?

Unlicensed Driver Hits Two Children and One Man Outside School in Queens

Authorities confirmed that a female driver did not have a valid license when she ran over two small children and an adult outside a Queens elementary school. The incident occurred in April of 2025, and it ended with the woman’s arrest. The police say that the driver lost control of her Nissan Versa and veered onto the sidewalk, striking two girls aged 7 and 14. The girls appear to be sisters. She also struck a man as her car “spun 360 degrees,” according to CBS News.

One of the girls suffered a broken leg and a brain injury, while her sister suffered only leg injuries. The adult also suffered leg injuries, and all three were hospitalized by first responders after the crash. School representatives noted that the area can become highly congested with foot traffic, especially during dismissal time. The woman responsible was charged with reckless driving and driving without a license. It eventually became clear that the defendant never had a valid license in New York.

Bus Shelter Collision Injures Four Pedestrians

On the same day, another driver struck four people who were waiting at a bus shelter in Queens. Authorities say that this driver swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, causing her to impact the pedestrians. All of the pedestrians were hospitalized after this incident, and two bus passengers were also injured. Finally, the driver of the vehicle and her two passengers were also injured in the collision. None of the injuries were life-threatening, however.

It is not clear who might be to blame for this crash, although it seems that the driver might have been trying to avoid another reckless motorist. In this type of situation, the driver who causes the initial “near-miss” can become liable for the resulting injuries – even if they did not directly impact the pedestrians.

Key Takeaways

  • Pedestrian crashes are common in areas like school zones and bus shelters
  • Reckless drivers are capable of causing catastrophic injuries to pedestrians
  • Some argue that speed bumps and other improvements could protect pedestrians
